Woke up in another country again. Back to Vancouver and ready to explore a bit more of this beautiful city. This time via a tour bus because we are so spoiled, we just need easy as we make this mid-trip transition to Hawaii!
I learned a lot about Vancouver. Here are some fun facts:
Canada Place has space to accommodate 5 cruise ships
Our cruise ship was one of the smaller ones with a little more than 3,000 passengers. Some of the bigger ones have many more. And the World Cup is still happening even though Canada their last game. So when we disembarked our ship at 9am, it looked like NYC on a workday.
Vancouver has a huge Chinese culture. Chinatown is a feature on the tour route with unique buildings, fascinating stories, and of course good food. But we couldn’t stop and sample so we will have to take their word for it.
They love both art and nature: had some unique art sprinkled throughout the city. Stanley Park is a truly urban oasis. It is larger than NY Central Park at 1000 acres and it has beautiful views of a bridge modeled after the SF Golden Gate Bridge. And because builders are required to have so much trees based on their property size, many of the buildings have rooftop gardens.
Vancouver has been called the Hollywood of the North due to all the TV shows and movies that have been filmed there: Mission Impossible 2, The 6 Million Dollar Man, 21 Jump Street, and MacGuyver. Who knew?
And the highlight of any city tour was the library. But this one was really special. It was shaped like a Roman Coliseum! Wish we could have stopped there.

There’s the library that was designed to resemble a Roman coliseum. It occupies an entire city block! And has over a million books and other items.
