Now this is real Hawaii

Today’s our final full day in Hawaii. And we have plans to make the most of it. But Jehovah had an unexpected surprise in store for us too!

Got on the road with time to spare for our main event. And it’s a good thing we did. We took the scenic road up the Windward side of Oahu that is much more of what the locals call the “real Hawaii”. Honolulu and Waikiki is considered the Vegas strip. The views were spectacular and Stacy and I eye’d a few of the for sale signs. From a safe distance of course. One is on the market for a mere $8.3 Million. Needless to say we will be coming home to reality tomorrow.

And then we did find our home - our forever home. We found the most amazing Kingdom Hall complex you could ever imagine. It was renovated a few years ago and currently has 4 Kingdom Hall auditoriums serving 16 congregations. We met some friends from the Chuuk language congregation and they gave us an unofficial mini tour.

If Vancouver is the Hollywood of the North, Oahu is the Hollywood of Polynesia. The next fun stop was at Kualo Ranch which has been the sight for many popular movies and TV shows of times past. Jurassic Park, Godzilla, Magnum P.I., Hawaii Five-O (of course), Jumanji, Fantasy Island, Lost, 50 First Dates. . . Gilligan’s Island’s first scene of the ship leaving for its fateful 3-hour tour was from a boat harbor in Waikiki.







Can’t you imagine King Kong climbing over that mountain. . .

. . .or Godzilla rising out of these waters?

It has 2 floors with an elevator and more rooms than we could count without being too intrusive.




Meet Bro “Clifton” Kiyoshi, our missionary brother who has been pioneering for 62 years and prays to Jehovah every December to be able to pioneer another year. He has a sister who has been a missionary in Taiwan for over 50 years. Sending love from today’s field ministry group in the Chuukese congregation.

Well this is going to be interesting!

As most of you know, today Stacy and I celebrate our 28th wedding anniversary! And we are off to explore two of earth’s most iconic places: Alaska and Hawaii. Given the very different temp states, this trip, although still technically in the US was more challenging to pack for than our 2 week British Isles trip last summer.  But with a last minute large second bag decision, we’ve got IT ALL packed and we are ready to go. First flight to Salt Lake City, UT and then to Vancouver, British Columbia. And we got a mini upgrade plus the exit row so Stacy is happily scrolling the entertainment options as we await departure.  We are so happy to share this latest adventure with you.

Utah without the Jazz

We had an easy flight from RDU to SLC and Stacy attempted to get some pictures of the mountains as we landed. Enjoy the view. Shortly after we arrived, we got the sad news of the loss of one our dearest friends. There are some people who bring so much sunshine to the lives of others that they can’t keep it from themselves. Here’s my favorite picture of me and my dear brother James. This will be another test of patience as we wait to see him again.

Who’s that girl?

So when Sydra told me I should wear my new hat on this trip, Stacy was a little skeptical. He even asked, where are you going to put that thing. Well, this outfit was a hit! Had folks switching lanes in the airport shuffle to complement. And then guess who was walking with a little extra dap in his step.  But then I got him good on our final flight to Vancouver. He was watching some race car movie with his headphones in and he almost missed it thinking it was another announcement about us coming in for a landing. But he came to realize the flight attendant was talking about him when she said “. . . congratulations on their 28 yr anniversary” and everyone on the plane started clapping. Then she said ring your call button so we will know where you are.  Stacy was in shock.😳 So I had to ring the button and the guys sitting across the aisle got TOO excited and started yelling “it’s them!” And then the couple behind us said they will have been married 53 years in August so we joke...
